Catherine – From Chronic Knee Pain to loosing 50 lbs

Catherine came to us with knee pain. A home exercise program helped her overcome it, and then we integrated nutrition and stress management. With a controlled 15% caloric deficit, meal preparation, running, and strength training 3x/week, then 2x/week, she lost over 50 pounds while improving her performance.

To this day, Catherine has become a training enthusiast, keeping it part of her daily routine.

In her own words, here is our interview with Catherine:

My name is Catherine, I’m 48 years old, and I work at the University of Montreal. I work in the research office on the communications team, so I’m a bit of a web integrator.

Who are you and what do you do? Tell us your story.

I knew I was overweight, and I knew I needed to do something, but I didn’t know what to do or how to do it. I needed a method that worked. Before, I was overweight, and nothing seemed to work anymore. I was at my wit’s end. My emotional state wasn’t strong. I was glad to find a place like this. I was depressed.

What were you doing before joining Studio Fit U?

When I arrived here, I had severe knee pain. Once the pain disappeared, I could start running better, going further, doing more. It no longer limits me; it helps me a lot in that regard. When I came here, I wanted to run a half-marathon again. It had been 5 years since I last ran one, and I had given up on it. I managed to complete my half-marathon. It was totally depressing.

What have you learned during your journey with us?

Today, I can say I’ve lost 50 pounds, but I don’t want to focus solely on the weight. At first, I thought, “If I can start running again, that would be great.”

How long have you been with us, and what have you achieved?

I started with you last March. I didn’t start losing weight right away. We started by addressing my knee pain, then began training, and after that, we focused on nutrition. So, it came in stages. I liked this progressive approach.

Why do you enjoy training with us?

Here, we are so warmly welcomed; it feels like home. You don’t feel like you’re going to the gym. When I first came here, being greeted with “Hi Catherine, hi, hi,” I loved that, and that’s why I kept coming back.

Would you recommend Studio Fit U?

Not being overweight anymore is… Just climbing stairs, it’s simple, but doing it without pain is fantastic. Obviously, running, because I run, that’s beyond my expectations. At one point, I couldn’t even bend down to tie my shoes. Obviously, my morale is better than before.
