Ruth – How she broke the Menopause Myth… at 60 !

Woman with menopause explaining how she lost 10kg and overcame her pain

Who are you? Tell me your story

My name is Ruth, I just turned 60 and I’m a university professor. I didn’t do much physical activity all my life, and as a result, I became a bit stiff, lacked energy and frail.

What were the challenges you faced before starting with us?

When I shoveled snow, I had pain — sciatic problems and back pain. A turning point was when I went on a walk with friends and suddenly felt out of breath after only 50 meters. That’s when I thought, “Okay, it’s time to do something.”

What results have you achieved so far and how long did it take?

I lost weight, but more importantly, I gained muscle. More than the weight loss, the big achievement for me was gaining more mobility and flexibility. I have absolutely no more pain now.

Outside of training, what other areas of your life have changed?

Emotionally, it gives a certain confidence. It’s reassuring, and what I see in the mirror is pleasant.

Menopause is often associated with weight gain due to hormonal changes. I had accepted the idea of gaining 4, 5, maybe 10 kg. But actually, no — we can change the course of things by staying active and feeling good in our bodies.

What do you think of the team and the center?

What impressed me from the very beginning — and still does — is that everyone says hello, and by name! Even people who aren’t my coach remember my name.

There’s a holistic approach — not just focusing on the physical, but also taking into account my daily life activities. That had a big, almost psychological impact.
